With chocolate being one of the most popular food items available today, the idea of making a chocolate dessert seems almost irrelevant. However this recipe is so fast and simple that it’s easier and probably less expensive than buying two bars of chocolate at the local corner shop.
This recipe uses cocoa powder and melted butter, therefore cutting down on time that would be spent melting chocolate or softening butter. It is also one of the few recipes where it’s possible to literally throw all the ingredients in a bowl together and not worry about what to add and when.
An Easy Recipe to Make with the Kids
Cooking with children can be an interesting experience. Given that this recipe is so easy to follow, it’s possible to lay everything out so they can easily help with the measuring and mixing. They will also likely want to help ‘clean’ the bowl after the cake mixture has been poured into the baking dish (if it makes it that far).
The mixture is baked in a shallow dish for just less than half an hour. For those wishing to make an extra effort, double the quantities and make two layers of cake. These can then be sandwiched with chocolate buttercream icing or cream and raspberry jam. After the first successful attempt it is worth getting adventurous with a recipe as straightforward as this one.

A Cheap and Delicious Cake Recipe to Impress Friends and Family
This cake recipe is easy for even the most unseasoned adult cooks to attempt as well and has the added advantage of containing readily available and inexpensive ingredients. Going on current supermarket prices, the cost of making this cake is well under £5 ($7) given that it’s possible to make more than one from the quantities purchased. The price of flour, eggs, sugar and butter range from as little as £0.35 for a small bag of flour to £1.50 for a box of six eggs. Cocoa powder will likely be the most expensive item, but at around £1.60 a pot, it is hardly likely to break the bank.
